The Literacy Company is a team of dedicated consultants who work closely with schools to enhance the curriculum and to improve standards in English.

We would like to invite you to a FREE training course which will introduce you to the mastery approach to writing, giving subject leaders and teachers practical ideas on how to implement the approach. Delegates will be introduced to the brand-new resource Pathways to Write: a programme that is currently being used in a growing number of schools and is already having a significant impact on progress and attainment.

Course description: This course will examine the key strategies needed for primary school pupils to become successful at reading comprehension. Delegates will participate in a range of exciting and engaging reading activities related to a range of picture books. Practical strategies to impact on teaching and learning of reading will be shared: understanding vocabulary in context, predicting, summarising, explaining and justifying inferences, making comparisons and answering questions. A wide variety of texts will be explored including those used in our Pathways to Write methodology.

Outcomes – Delegates will:

  • Be equipped with a range of strategies to teach engaging reading lessons, develop reading comprehension and ensure consistency throughout school
  • Investigate a range of inspiring texts to enhance the teaching of reading and writing
  • Have a clear understanding of Pathways to Write and how this supports curriculum development and English outcomes

Audience: Subject leaders, deputy headteachers, headteachers – a maximum of 2 delegates per school.
