This package of Exemplification Materials is designed to support teacher assessment of writing in Reception.

It contains examples of child-initiated and adult-initiated pieces of independent writing to show the progression towards achieving the Early Learning Goals. Three children have been tracked from baseline to the end of Reception with detailed commentary across a range of pieces of writing. Evidence in this collection uses the strands from Development Matters to track ongoing writing skills and the statements from Early Learning Goals to demonstrate children working at the expected level of development.
