This EYFS unit of work is based on The Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright. Worrysaurus has planned a special picnic but it isn’t long before a small butterfly of worry starts fluttering in his tummy. Worrysaurus needs to find a way to chase his fears away and have fun.
This reading unit comprises 6 weeks of shared reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from Development Matters. Each weekly plan provides an opportunity for the practise of prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills as well as having a mastery focus for explicit teaching of inference.
This reading unit also includes 6 fully resourced lessons around the core theme of personal, social and emotional development as part of the PSED curriculum.
This unit can be used individually or as part of a whole-school themed project on well-being with our other units on this theme.
Please note, the core Pathways to Read unit that uses this text is slightly different to this ‘Well-being’ themed unit.
