This wonderful EYFS unit of work is based on We’re Going to Find the Monster by Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola. We’re going to find the monster follows two young adventurers on a journey over the shimmering ocean, up the huge, high mountain, through the deep, dark forest… to find the monster! This book is full of funny, relatable characters and is perfect for the first term in reception looking through the windows into family life.

Develop spoken language, reading and writing skills with this unit based around ‘We’re Going to Find the Monster’ by Malorie Blackman. The final outcome is for pupils to depict the main events of the story using between 3 and 5 images. Pupils are to mark make next to each image explaining what is happening.

Each of our Black Lives units comprise 15 sessions and are designed to be delivered over a 4/5 week period.

Mastery Skills:

• 3-and 4-year-olds – Use some of their print and letter knowledge in their early writing
• Children in reception – Spell words by identifying the sounds and then writing the sound with letter/s, Form lower-case letters correctly
