Pathways to Read is a programme designed to equip pupils from year 1 to year 6 with key skills to move them through the reading process towards becoming competent and fluent readers.

Pathways to Read is designed to support with the teaching of the national curriculum reading comprehension objectives. The Y1 units have been developed to run alongside the school’s chosen SSP (systematic synthetic phonics) programme for the spring and summer terms.

The units provide clear detailed lesson plans and resources linked to high-quality texts, ensuring engaging and purposeful reading sessions.

The programme follows a mastery approach to learning with three categories of skills developed each half-term: ongoing skills, core skills and mastery skills. Pupils will focus on 2-3 objectives over the course of each half term.

  • Detailed grouped reading plans to follow on from each whole class session for Y2-Y6
