Pathways to Spell is an innovative and engaging spelling programme to fascinate pupils about words. Research-based lessons follow a ‘Review, Explain, Practise, Apply and Reflect’ cycle.

Year 1 Pathways to Spell is designed to support the teaching of the year 1 national curriculum spelling objectives. It has been developed to run alongside the school’s chosen SSP (systematic synthetic phonics) programme for the spring and summer terms.

Year 2 Pathways to Spell is a progressive spelling programme which covers all national curriculum objectives for year 2 as well as reviewing the previously taught phonics and spelling patterns.

The KS1 units provide clear detailed lesson plans and resources, as well as PowerPoint ensuring engaging and purposeful spelling lessons.
In KS1, the plans include four 20-minute spelling lessons per week. Each plan covers review objectives to ensure gaps in learning are constantly revisited as well the year group objectives.
