Pathways to Write is a proven methodology built around units of work which develop communication and language and reading and writing skills through the mastery approach.

The units, for use with pupils in both Foundation 1 and Foundation 2, provide clear detailed lesson plans and resources linked to engaging and inspiring texts. The planning is written as mixed age planning and has separate objectives and activities for 3- and 4-year-olds and children in reception. The lesson plans provide plentiful opportunities for following the interests of pupils and each unit suggests additional cross curricular ideas for Physical Development; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Mathematics; Understanding the World; and Expressive and Artistic Design. The Plan, Do, Review model is also followed to encourage pupil-initiated learning and to respond to the interests of the pupils. Each unit considers the characteristics of effective learning, and these are highlighted throughout.
