Stonewall by Rob Sanders, illustrated by Jamey Christoph – Book Review

Jun 1st 2023

We love to promote texts that support diversity and this one certainly was a great find.

This stunning book narrated by the building that is at the heart of the story allows young readers to find out the rich history of the Stonewall Inn, the surrounding area of Greenwich and its role in the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement when the Stonewall Inn was raided by police in New York City.

This picture book is beautifully illustrated and contains information about the Stonewall Inn, images from the 1960s and 1970s and an interview with one of the activists following the story itself.

We have a range of texts celebrating diversity in our Pathways to Write programme, including books Grandad’s Camper by Harry Woodgate, and Nen and the Lonely Fisherman by Ian Eagleton.

Stonewall is available from our partners at Madeleine Lindley here.
