The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book by Lucy Rowlands and Ben Mantle

Feb 9th 2021

This follow up to the popular Little Red Reading Hood is another twist on a classic fairy tale. This time the author has taken the premise of the Three Little Pigs and re-written it to produce a heart-warming tale which reminds us of the magic of storytelling.

Ben’s mum gets distracted during his bedtime story and the tale is left unfinished. As he waits for her to return, he attempts to read the story himself and that is when it takes a very different direction to the one we all know and love.

Three little visitors appear at Ben’s window and as he continues with the story we know which character will not be far behind. Children will be familiar with the ending to the story but with Ben’s version the wolf offers a much better solution and the characters decide to become friend instead.

It is a lovely tale about friendship, kindness and the importance of stories which EYFS and KS1 will love. As it is written in rhyme, there are plenty of opportunities for them to join in and become storytellers themselves.
