Why The Literacy Company?

Previously, we had different approaches to the writing process across the school and so there was a lack of consistency in progression. The coverage of NC skills across year groups was not secure.
We chose to work with The Literacy Company because their work had a great reputation and we had a recommendation from another local school. The support offer was varied – moderation, book looks, learning walks etc. and the collaboration with our English subject leader was strong.

The Impact:

Teachers are able to follow a clear writing process and are confident in delivering this. They have a clear understanding of the curriculum and the expectations of their year group. Teachers are becoming more confident in moderating/assessing their children’s writing and securing judgements.

Using the progression documents, teachers are able to adapt their planning to suit the needs of their children so that all can achieve and are included in the lessons.

Learning walks/book looks/observations have shown that there is now a consistent approach to the teaching of writing at our school. Children have the opportunity to write every lesson and have, as a result, built up a bank of writing which can be easily assessed against the mastery keys.

As a result of using The Literacy Company, our children are now more inspired to write. They immerse themselves in the texts and are confident to write for a range of purposes.
