Why The Literacy Company?

We chose Pathways to Read because the mastery approach picks apart the reading strands and teaches the national curriculum objectives.

Previously, we had no set whole class texts and not enough diverse texts for reading in school.

The Impact:

Since implementing Pathways to Read, pupils are developing a real love of and pleasure for reading. There has been noticeable improvement in reading attainment across school, and the pupil voice provided positive feedback. Children are really engaging with the high-quality texts introduced in Pathways to Read.
Pupils are transitioning/progressing well from Read Write Inc phonics onto Pathways to Read.

The Pathways to Read planning documents are carefully sequenced with all the reading skills evident in each lesson. Teachers have commented on how clear the planning documents are to follow, which makes planning for a session easier.

Having good examples of prediction, retrieval and inference questions in the planning documents has helped to model what effective questioning looks like and having planning documents and accompanying PowerPoints has helped with teacher workload.

We are in our second year of Pathways to Read. It is easy to implement and following the planning documents has been very straightforward.
The texts are of a very high-quality and the children have engaged with them so well.
The texts have also linked well with our Pathways to Write texts, which has enabled pupils to make links across their learning and with the world around them.
Sessions contain much content and at times our team spill this content over from one lesson to the next.
