This online course comprises a free introductory session followed by three training sessions aimed at teachers who are new to or returning to EYFS. Delegates will have the opportunity to develop their subject knowledge and work collaboratively with other EYFS practitioners. They will also take away practical ideas for use in the classroom to support the development of early reading and writing through engaging texts.
FREE Introductory Session: The New to EYFS introductory session will provide an overview of the whole course, detailing the aims of the three sessions which will run over the course of the year. This session offers the opportunity to meet other practitioners who are new to EYFS and the chance to ask questions before starting your new position. During this session we will have a brief look at the EYFS reforms and there will be a focus on setting up your environments and getting to know your class.
Session 1: Enabling Environments We will focus on continuous provision and developing environments that promote language skills. We will also investigate communication at the heart of literacy and key strategies to support language development.
Session 2: Reading and Writing We will discuss feedback from session one activities and focus on the development of phonics and reading in the Early Years. An engaging unit of work will be shared for teachers to take back to school and use to enhance provision for reading and writing across the environment.
Session 3: Moderation We will discuss feedback from session two and focus on developing subject knowledge around Early Learning Goals. Practitioners will also have the opportunity to look at some exemplar writing and moderate their own writing collaboratively.
