Course description: This course will examine the key strategies needed for primary school pupils to become
successful in mastery of both reading and writing. Delegates will participate in a range of exciting and engaging reading comprehension activities related to a range of picture books. Practical strategies to impact on teaching and learning of reading and writing will be shared. A wide variety of texts will be explored
including those used in our Pathways to Write methodology. Delegates will be introduced to our resource Pathways to Write: a programme that is currently being used in a growing number of schools and is having a significant impact on progress and attainment.
Outcomes: Delegates will:
• Be equipped with a range of strategies to teach engaging reading lessons, develop reading comprehension and ensure consistency throughout school
• Investigate a range of inspiring texts to enhance the teaching of reading and writing
• Have a clear understanding of Pathways to Write and how this supports curriculum development and English outcomes
Audience: Subject leaders, deputy headteachers, headteachers
Time: 3.45 – 5.30pm
