This 3 session training package is designed to support reading leads develop and deliver their phonics provision in school.
Session 1: How to lead phonics effectively
We will consider the role and responsibility of the RL and support with key action points to take back to school. This will involve auditing where your school are currently at in terms of phonics provision and what needs to be done in order to make effective changes. We will consider key messages from the DfE and what to prioritise when it comes to phonics from resources, to books and teaching structures. The aim is to support you in your role and how to move phonics forward in your school.
Session 2: How to observe and evaluate the teaching of phonics
We will look at what makes an effective and successful phonics lesson. This will involve what to expect from adults and pupils during and after a session. We will consider teaching structures and approaches which underpin effective teaching and help to build a pro-forma for observations and guidance for staff in terms of what is being looked for.
Session 3: Supporting the lowest 20%
This session will focus on how provision both in and out of the phonics lesson supports pupils working below the expected standards. We will look at use of additional adults and key intervention techniques and strategies to support learners who are struggling. This will involve evaluating provision and looking at what really works in order to engage, and motivate early readers in order to help them decode successfully.

Cost: £180 +VAT for all 3 sessions or £60+VAT for a single session
