Our Autumn Half Term Recap

Nov 5th 2024

Read on to find out more about what some of our consultants have been getting up to this half term!

We have had a great Autumn 1 half term at The Literacy Company and our consultants have had a great time travelling around the country to deliver school support. From INSET days to cluster training to events, it has been an incredibly exciting time for us.

Louise

Louise has been working with some of our new Pathways schools this half term and has delivered some INSET days. She visited a school in September to introduce Pathways to Write and she has since been back at the end of the half term to look at books, provide planning support, and look at the fantastic progress they have made.

She has also worked with Jen to deliver support sessions about adaptive teaching to clusters.

Jo

Jo has been out delivering planning support at several schools this half term. She headed over to the east coast for a few days to work with a cluster of schools in Norfolk. Collaboration in education is so important so it’s great to work with schools together. This was the first of a series of support sessions and will provide great CPD over the course of the year.

Jo has also worked with the Halton schools to deliver training for teaching assistants. She supported them with closing gaps in writing and using Pathways to Progress intervention materials.

Allison

Allison travelled to East London to support two of our new Pathways schools. There, she delivered INSET days where she introduced Pathways to Write and Pathways to Read. On the Wirral, Allison delivered some planning workshops that focussed on adapting planning for pupils that were working below year group expectations. Furthermore, she has also supported schools by modelling reading lessons that focus on developing reading fluency.

Kirsten

Kirsten enjoyed revisiting some of our new Pathways schools to see how their first term of Pathways to Read and Write has gone. It was great to see what a fantastic start they have made!

Kirsten has also been delivering the first couple of sessions with the new intake of trainee teachers at the Cheshire Leadership and Teaching Alliance. They have been looking at everything from English in the national curriculum to subject knowledge of grammar and punctuation. In a session delivered with Lynne, they continued to look at sentence progression and looked at the mastery approach through a unit of work.

Linda

Linda has delivered a wide range of school support this half term. Following the launch of our updated Pathways to Read units, she has worked with schools on developing reading fluency – a new focus in our updated programme. She has also delivered moderation support for writing to schools and clusters across the North West.

Linda attended several events including the Halton Headteachers’ Conference and the Chamber of Commerce Women’s Networking meeting.

Sian

As well as delivering support in schools, Sian has also travelled to many events and meetings around the country. She has travelled up to Cumbria to meet headteachers at events that took place at Kendal Rugby Club and the Greenhill Hotel. She has also attended the Childer Thornton English Hub event where she met the new Hub support schools for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Sian went to The Wrightington Hotel for some regional training across 5 northern Hub networks. This literacy specialist training involved getting latest updates from the DfE and looking at ensuring high ambitions for all.
