These new and exciting poetry units are the second in a set of 3 released this year (if purchased as part of Pathways to Write this set aligns with spring 2 core units). All aspects of poetry from the NC in reading, spoken language and writing composition will be covered across the full set.

Write a night sounds poem based on Berlie Doherty’s version
|Year 3||The Magnificent Bull
Pupils write and perform a Dinka-inspired poem about the blue whale as the outcome
|Year 4||Windrush Child
Linked to the theme of ‘leaving your home’, the outcome is a free verse, personal narrative poem based on Windrush Child
|Year 5||Finding Magic
Linked to exploring the wider world, this unit allows pupils to write a free verse poem describing the wonder of the world using metaphor
|Year 6||The Sea
Through exploration of a range of poems about the sea, pupils use metaphorical language and personification to write a narrative poem about a journey across the sea
