Our well-being themed collection of units have been designed to address themes linked to the development of pupils’ social and emotional learning from EYFS-Y6 through a range of engaging, high-quality texts. The units and texts develop key reading skills and explore issues relating to feelings, friendships, health and relationships.

These reading units comprise 6 weeks of whole class reading and grouped reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each weekly plan provides an opportunity for the practise of prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills as well as having a mastery focus for explicit teaching of inference and author word choice. For EYFS and Y1, it is just whole class shared reading.

This reading unit also includes 6 fully resourced lessons around the core theme of personal, social and emotional development as part of the PHSCE curriculum that link to the theme of the text.

These units can be used individually or as part of a whole-school themed project on well-being.

Please note, the core Pathways to Read unit that uses this text is slightly different to this ‘Well-being’ themed unit.
