This Y1 unit is based on Little Red Riding Hood by Mara Alperin. Little Red Riding Hood is a traditional tale telling the story of a young girl who goes on a journey through the forest to visit her poorly Grandma. On her way she encounters a wolf who plots a plan and disguises himself as Grandma to trick her. Luckily a woodcutter is around to save the day.

This reading unit comprises 6 weeks of whole class reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each week provides an opportunity for pupils to develop reading fluency and to practise prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills.
