This Year 2 unit of work is based on A bear called Paddington by Michael Bond.  This timeless novel has been given a fresh new look. The adorable bear from deepest, darkest Peru turns the Brown family in London upside down. Since then their lives have never been quite the same… for ordinary things become quite extraordinary! For nearly sixty years, Paddington Bear has touched the hearts of adults and children worldwide with his earnest good intentions and humorous misadventures. 

This reading unit comprises 6 weeks of whole class reading and grouped reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each weekly plan provides an opportunity to develop pupils’ reading fluency and to practise prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills. There is also a weekly mastery focus for explicit teaching of inference and word choice.
