This Y2 unit is based on The Great Fire of London by The Literacy Company.  Find out about the events surrounding the Great Fire of London in 1666. This text not only shares the timeline of what happened but also focuses on what life was like in London in the past and how it has changed today. 

This reading unit comprises 6 weeks of whole class reading and grouped reading sessions, focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each week provides an opportunity for pupils to develop reading fluency and to practise prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills. There is also a weekly mastery focus for explicit teaching of retrieval and structure.
