This Y4 unit is based on Rise Up: Ordinary Kids with Extraordinary Stories by Amanda Li. Rise up is a wonderful text for a Y4 class. The whole book is filled with empowering stories of 29 children who have overcome challenges and succeeded. There are snippets of texts from other genres: information, instructions and step-by-step guides. 

These reading units comprise 6 weeks of whole class reading plans focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each week provides an opportunity for pupils to develop reading fluency and to practise prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills. There is also a weekly mastery focus for explicit teaching of inference and author word choice.
