This Y5 unit is based on You Are Awesome: Find Your Confidence and Dare to be Brilliant at (Almost) Anything by Matthew Syed. You are awesome is an inspiring book which uses numerous examples of well-known, successful people to demonstrate that with hard-work, practice and self-belief anything is achievable.   

These reading units comprise 6 weeks of whole class reading plans focusing on the teaching of key reading skills from the national curriculum. Each week provides an opportunity for pupils to develop reading fluency and to practise prediction, clarifying of vocabulary and retrieval skills. There is also a weekly mastery focus for explicit teaching of summarising, distinguishing between fact and opinion and identifying how language, structure and presentation contribute towards meaning.
