Y6 Unit of Work – Finding Winnie

Based around the facinating true story of ‘Winnie the Pooh’, this Y6 unit of work follows a Mastery approach with a final outcome of a biography about Harry Colebourn. The unit focuses on developing the following skills:

  • Recognise vocabulary and structures that are appropriate for formal speech and writing, including subjunctive forms
  • Use passive verbs
  • Use semi-colons, colons or dashes to mark boundaries between independent clauses
  • Know how words are related in meaning as antonyms and synonyms
  • Integrate dialogue in narratives to convey character and advance the action

Ideal for teaching in the spring term of year 6; it also includes clear objectives for developing reading and spoken language skills in each session throughout the three week unit.
