Elevate Writing Standards Across Your Trust with Targeted Moderation

Are you seeking effective ways to raise writing standards across your Multi-Academy Trust? Our whole-school moderation packages are designed to strengthen writing moderation practices, identify areas for improvement, and elevate writing proficiency across your schools.

Tailored Moderation

We offer a range of adaptable moderation models tailored to meet the unique needs of your MAT. These models are designed to support the tracking of focus pupils over the year, providing clear insights into student progress and areas requiring additional attention. By following individual pupils’ development, schools can more accurately address learning gaps, adjust teaching strategies, and ensure every child receives the guidance they need to thrive.

Collaborative Assessment

In addition to tracking, our models encourage collaborative discussions among colleagues enhancing staff confidence and precision in assessment. Regular moderation sessions allow educators to align their expectations, share insights, and develop a unified approach to evaluating and improving writing. This collaborative process builds consistency across trust schools, supports smooth transitions between year groups and key stages, and ultimately fosters a culture of high standards in writing that benefits students and staff alike.

What Support Packages Are Available?

Supporting Struggling Writers

Designed to aid teachers in ensuring that pupils working below age-related expectations in writing can be supported effectively in closing gaps and getting back on track to achieve age related expectations. The training is organised into three sessions providing practical advice and strategies that will have immediate and long-term impact on pupil attainment.

These sessions will:

  • Identify factors which cause pupils to fall behind with writing
  • Explore a range of strategies to support effective vocabulary development and oracy skills
  • Investigate strategies to support effective sentence construction and shared writing
  • Develop effective teaching of transcription skills (spelling and handwriting)
  • Consider strategies to support with effective editing and proof-reading

For the support model, pricing and details on the organisation please see the brochure.

Developing Greater-depth

With so much focus on closing gaps towards expected standard, it can be easy to forget about those pupils who so quickly master what they are taught. This package of support will put more able children front and centre. Teachers will leave armed with strategies, ideas and resources to support this able group of writers and nurture their love of English.

These sessions will:

  • Exemplify the GDS standard for Y2, Y3/4 and Y5/6
  • Investigate samples of GDS writing in each year group
  • Consider how to adapt teaching to cater for more able pupils
  • Focus on the role of purpose and audience in writing
  • Examine the journey of a more able writer through a unit of work
  • Consider best practice for evaluating, editing and improving writing
  • Explore the role of reading in supporting writing, including its impact on developing vocabulary

For the support model, pricing and details on the organisation please see the brochure.

Developing Oracy

A whole school CPD package to support the development of oracy. We will unpick the spoken language curriculum and how it can be embedded within each year group. This course focuses on the theme of identity and uses poetry as a vehicle to explore and celebrate pupils’ sense of self.

These sessions will:

  • Explore progression within the spoken language curriculum
  • Share effective strategies to support the teaching of oracy
  • Exemplify how poetry activities can enhance and support spoken language and writing opportunities

All schools will receive a whole-school package of poetry based on the theme of ‘This is Me’. This entails one week of poetry planning and resources per year group, covering reading, writing and spoken language objectives.
